A wee post about them Scots
Saturday, November 13, 2010
I—like many English people—had been trained to laugh at Scots. Been trained to laugh at their quaint expressions of identity. And the even more quaint ways in which they hang on to it. Basically, trained via education and the media, to think that Scottish people were very vocal but very insignificant.
It's only now, when I realise just how battered and assaulted the English identity is, that I've learned to carry a fair amount of respect for the way a lot of "stereotypical" Scots do what they do; wear kilts, eat Haggis, drink until they're beyond merry and simply do what Scottish people know best. And to not feel ashamed of any of it. Anyone would think they were living in Scotland the way they carry on!
In blog land, I look to the Scots bloggers a lot. Particularly the few Scottish libertarian bloggers (the socialist bloggers who represent a fair chunk of the Scottish votership just haven't seen what their principles do to a nation. Yet). These libertarian bloggers don't worry themselves about being libertarian in the rehearsed, Nu Populist, approved sense. They just come straight out and say it. Don't like it? Don't read it. Simple as that.
There are, however, a band of Scottish faux-nationalists, who—whilst in part attempting to appeal to a libertarianish audience—seem to think allowing and encouraging every other nationality to grow within is somehow nationalist. I do hope this ridiculous lot don't grow legs. Although sadly, I suspect their version of Scottish nationalism will be the accepted version. For no other reasons than because it was beaten into them from childhood upwards by an establishment who have a certain fruition in mind.
I'd like to think that by the time I die, there will be at least a small area of Britain that harbours the values that made these islands the civilisation they are.
We (Brits in general) are a slightly insular people (although welcoming to friendly guests); slightly arrogant at times, very humourous, and given half a chance, very resourceful too.
You can see why the Powers that Be want to destroy it all now...

Isle of Man, Channel islands or Gibraltar, CS..... it's come down to that already - without a revolution, the Country's fucked!
You're right, Spidey. Any island will now do. As long as it's only us independent, self-sufficient types on it!
The country's going down the tubes, and the more I read, the less I'm wanting to do my bit to save it (by means of attempting to reverse the internationalist indoctrination that's got into wider society).
I say we just club together, grab that island and catch our own fish. And shoot the fuck out of anybody who comes near!
One of the phrases that I utterly loathe in today's conversation is 'well to be honest...' for I always follow it up with 'does that mean you've been telling me porkies since we sat down to talk then?' This of course, always throws them off and rightfully so. It's a stupid saying. However if I were ever to use it (which I never would) I'd use it in the following.
The English people and the Scottish including the Welsh and Irish don't realise how similar that they all are. Our cultures grew up along one another through the centuries. Our people grew up amongst one another within Europe. The only thing that's really kept us apart and at each others' throats have been the cunts who've been pulling the strings.
Having spent a large part of my life in London, my friends there were English. I didn't look at them at being any different and of course none of them were. They were the same, with a different accent. Of course the banter flowed and the piss taking ensued, but it was all friendly and I gave as good as I got, if not better.
What really however fucked me off most about being in London was how easily the English had laid it down to be taken away from them. Their capital city for fuck's sake is in the hands of thieves and the population within, by 3/4 of this century will be predominantly Muslim Asian and black - go around most state schools at end of school time and look for yourselves. You know how I feel about non white and British - oxymoron. So of course I eventually left, thanks to a break up, but also because I hated what London had become.
So coming back to Scotland after 16 years I didn't really expect that much change but oh how there is. Sadly the liberal fuckwits FROM ENGLAND, happy to see their own societies go down the Swanee have now started it up here. They've set up the fancy bars, with expensive beers (friend was in Edinburgh the other day - £4.50 a pint!). There are far more English here but like I said the multicultural knobends who ironically don't realise that their feet are doing exactly the opposite of what their mouth is saying - we love multiculturalism but we want to live amongst white people.
Before I left London late 2009 I had already notices the many people who now clasiffied themselves as English NOT British. I agreed. And I no longer class myself as British either for reason explained in my last article. However, again to finish off, I've always enjoyed the company of my fellow English. Since coming back to Dundee three friends happen to be a real Cockney from West Ham, a west country lad and a Jamaican because they've pretty much experienced life, unlike many of my fellow Scots. Ironic eh? LOL
Very true Spidey. The thing with the places you list there is that they are loyal to what Britain *was* and what it could be again. Not what it is now.
These days for the people I live amongst the UK is a place you visit and come back shaking your head - but believing that it's an aberration...a phase...a bad decade or two and that Britain will sort itself out as it always seems to in the past.
Maybe it's not true this time.
But if/when the UK does pull its head out of its ravaged and bleeding arse, it'll find Gib and similar places ready to issue a hearty slap on the back and a welcome back my son; thought we'd almost lost you there for fuck sakes.
Until that happens I'm staying where I am. And in the meantime, kindly stop trying to export your bollocks smoking ban type ideas out here. We don't want them!
Off topic, but saw this article just now on being conditioned to accept the unacceptable and the cult of the uniform.
From a US perspective but well worth a read:

Great post, CS, and I agree with you and all the commentors. The destruction is really accelerating now. I hope there is still someplace good left to go to, like Spidey said. Out here, There doesn't seem to be any at all. Harbingers article you linked to is great.
Just like out here, speaking the truth get's you labeled the "R" word. I say, F them!

Harbers: To be frank, I'd pretty much agree ;-)
It's astounding when you look into it, and see just how many minor differences are exaggerated by the media, the telly, and whatnots. Far be it from any of us to realise that we're more or less the same, have the same desires in life (safety peace and doing no harm to our fellow man), the same deep-lying principles (civlisation).
Of course, our bantering nature is also a part of that. In the past, we could all sit around in a pub of an evening mocking each other's accents and home towns, but when confronted by an outside threat, we'd all band together.
In spending time in other areas of southern England (i.e. smaller towns outside London) I see two distinct types of people living there. There are the old cockney tradesman types who moved there to escape. Then there are the guilty Liberal types who also moved there to escape, but lambaste the cockney tradesman types for moving there to escape. Even when confronted by the joys and wonders of growing Third World cultures in their own backyards, the liberals believe (or pretend to believe) all the media guff that it's because the government isn't doing enough to "help" these minorities and the majority's expense.
That alone sends shivers down my spine. Any culture that needs constant monitoring and policing is evidently going to cause friction here in Britain (although I say fair play to those who come and adopt our culture and want to be a part of it - even if it'll never truly be their own). But then constant monitoring is what TPTB want and it all becomes clearer.
It's obvious to me that the goal was to crack the biggest nut first, so they've set about destroying England and its hubs whilst bribing the north of England, large parts of Scotland and Wales into voting for Socialism (although International Socialism is what we get - regardless).
I no longer classify myself as British either. Just English. To be British means you could be from anywhere. Just the way TPTB like it - no allegiance to this nation and hence, no fightback when it gets flushed down the toilet.
ASE: I can't say I blame you for staying put. The only reason I'm still here is because where I've been (lived in the Czech Republic for a stint in 2003-4), I see the same things happening.
Plus I have this defiant little streak in me that keeps me here. I know they'd dearly love to replace me with someone who doesn't give a toss about these isles and would be perfectly happy to see them destroyed forever. But in the meantime, I'm going to be as awkward as I can be ;-)
Thanks Bunni :-)
Harbinger's post highlights the idiocy within certain quarters of the Scottish nationalist movement. That is to be independent, but not really Scottish anymore and with exactly the same principles ruling as before. In which case, there's little point in being independent!
If it's just the control mechanisms those pseudo-nationalists are railing against, they shouldn't worry. The SNP wants what our lot want and are bought and paid for. There's simply no point in having their politicians closer to them (as opposed to Westminster rule) as the SNP will do the same anyway, and in the exact same manner.
The "R-word" has so many meanings now. It started out as a slur used upon those who rejected the Jewish construct of Communism in Russia. And even today, it's used as a method to slap down those who love their own culture (without necessarily disliking other cultures). But it means whatever they want it to mean now. Anything that'll suppress debate and beat down those who oppose having their own cultures and societies destroyed.
are a slightly insular people
Slightly?
